Richard a écrit : "My daughter discovered these pictures of my dad, Staff Sargeant Richard R. Voght - 45th Thunderbird. He had talked about fighting in Italy - Anzio, Salerno - but I didn't realize that he had also been in France, He had a lifelong habit of smoking Italian cigars - Parodis - and he played the accordion his entire life. He had a great sense of humor - my mom died in 1977 and my father died in 1997. Those are graet pictures and bring back a lot of memories - thanks so much for posting!"

Hello Richard,
I am very late to answer to your comment, sorry.
Some years ago I tried to contact your father or a member of his family, but all my searches even with help of a thunderbird veteran living at this time in Tampa FL , were unsuccessfull.
During ww2 your father had a girl friend christnamed Andrée in Frémifontaine and he gave to here a postal address in Saxonville MS.
To day the Andrée'sister is always living in Frémifontaine, she is 88 . She gave to me the copies of the twoo pictures and a copy of a newspaper article concerning your father.
You can contact me directly using my e-mail adress <siret_fremi88@msn.com>

Working since many years for the memory of the american soldiers who liberate our village, I am very happy to receive news from you.

I am ready to send you the pictures and the few documents I have concerning Sgt Voght..

Sorry for my english, I hope that you will understand.

Best regards Jean-Marie

Hello, Your grandfather was not lucky because he was KIA the day of the relief of the Ist battalion (180th rgt) by the men of the 2 d battalion from the 398th rgt (century dividion). It is not easy to locate where your grand father was killed. After reading the story of the 180th I think that he was killed near the mountain pass de la "Chipotte" just betwen Rambervillers and Raon l'Etape in Vosges mountains, east of France. If you want I can scan a sector of 1/25000 or 1/50000 map and send it to you.
If your are ok give me your e-mail address. Best regards thunderbird88
